John NortonThe price of a cartoon all depends on the complexity, detail, and usage of the creation. Cartoons can cost anywhere from $50 to hundreds of dollars or more for exceptionally large, intricate pieces.

The first thing to remember about pricing is that there’s a $50 minimum fee. $50 will get you a simple but professional custom cartoon for use on a website, flier, newspaper advertisement, or one of many other places. A somewhat more intricate cartoon character in front of a cartoon background may cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $200. Sometimes it’s a good idea to find an example of the general kind of cartoon you’re looking for so we’re both on the same page.

Next, remember that the price also depends on how many different ways you’re going to use the cartoon. If you want to use a $100 cartoon only on your website, it’s going to cost $100. If you want to use it on your website and in a promotional flier, the cost will increase by 50% to $150. If you also want to use the cartoon in a newspaper advertisement, the cost will increase by 100% to $200. Ultimately, you are buying usage rights of the cartoon, while I retain the original copyright. If you wish to purchase the original copyright to the cartoon creation, we can negotiate–just bear in mind, it’s a lot more expensive to buy copyright ownership than it is to buy usage rights!
